FAQs About Newborn Photography
How do I know when to schedule our newborn session?
Your deposit will reserve a spot on my calendar for your ‘due month.’ Just reach out after the arrival of your babe to get an exact date on the calendar. Newborn sessions typically happen in the first 2 weeks of life (those fresh little details are so fleeting!), but can really be whenever works best for your family. I’m just so awkward in front of the camera! What can I do to look natural?
I assure you, almost everyone feels awkward at the beginning of their session! Honestly, it’s not your job to know what to do. Whether in-home or outside, I will scope out the prettiest light and spots for you to move and be with your family. Then, I will give prompts and provide direction to create interaction and encourage you to focus on each other. As you begin to relax, authentic moments will begin to unfold! We want the images to feel organic but the best way to get there is with a lot of gentle direction so you don’t feel lost or awkward. I got you! All you have to do is relax and enjoy being with people that you love the most in the world.
And if I’m not saying anything, it’s because you’re nailing it!
I’d love an in-home session, but our home doesn’t get much natural light. It that ok?
Yes! I am equally comfortable photographing inside and out, and have equipment that can handle very low-light conditions. There is something really special about images that reflect your everyday space and life. When I arrive at your home, I will take a walk around and select the best spots for your portrait session. Sometimes we move furniture around a little bit so we can be closer to a window or natural light source.
What if I choose one package and later decide I want more images?
No problem! The balance of your package investment is due when you make your final image selections, so you only pay for the images you absolutely love! You will receive your final edited images 2 weeks after your balance is paid in full.
Can I order prints and canvases and other photo products from you?
Yes! Your online gallery will be linked to a professional photo lab with options for high quality prints and canvases. Ordering through this lab is the best way to ensure your final art comes out looking its very best, as I double check every order before sending it to the lab for processing. Sometimes a different crop is required, especially for canvases, and I’m happy to take care of this for you. I can also design a hardcover album of all your final images with your choice of linen or eco-leather cover for a small fee.
When will I receive my final edited images?
After you select your favorite images from an online proofing gallery, each image will be individually hand-edited by me to artistically enhance the essence and connection of your family’s story. I include light skin retouching and smoothing on all final portraits. You will receive an invitation to download your fully edited high resolution digital images within 2 weeks of selecting your favorite images.
Will my images be in color or black and white?
You will receive both color and black and white copies of your final portraits.
What if it rains on my session date?
When scheduling outdoor sessions, I will block off 2 potential days in my schedule, so there is always a backup in case of inclement weather. However, sometimes overcast skies are perfect for the season or mood of your portraits.
