As a newborn photographer, my approach newborn sessions is to provide gentle guidance to parents and siblings to encourage natural interactions. Then, I quietly observe and capture little details that reveal each family’s unique story. We will allow your baby to lead the session, keeping them calm in your loving arms while I document the details: soft hair whorls, fuzzy shoulders, wrinkly feet, and the way those tiny fingers grasp a sibling’s finger.
Inevitably, most newborns do fall asleep during the session and we are able to lay them down so I can capture their own natural sleepy newborn poses and (sometimes!) the elusive sleep smile. Years from now, when you snuggle up with your child to tell him about the story of his birth and first weeks with your family, these are the photographs that will transport you back to a time when he slept on your chest in that perfect round baby shape. You will recall the sensation of his downy soft hair against your cheek, and his silky smooth, newborn scented skin.
This connection-focused approach allows for more flexibility with wakefulness than a posed newborn session, so it is never to late to capture these fleeting newborn photos! As a family and newborn photographer, I offer in-home sessions for babies of all ages (no age restrictions here!).
